Externally near original and skilfully designed, the church has architectural significance for its associations with Vanheems,who designed numbers of Roman Catholic buildings throughout Victoria from the turn of the century. Vanheems, with Connelly, was particularly notable for the design in 1937-38 of additions to St. Patrick's Cathedral in East Melbourne.
