The present weatherboard and timber lined structure consists of a double gabled frontage added in the 1920s to an earlier store built between 1902 & 1905. The original 19th century store still exists, though somewhat altered, to the right of the present structure. This store, together with the Ranges Hotel, and the Gembrook Coffee Palace, formed the core of the town of Gembrook at the terminus of the Ferntree Gully to Gembrook Railway line (now Puffing Billy), and the building continues to evoke the timber and tourist trade of earlier days.
