Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
58 Hesse Street is of local historical and architectural significance as an example of a Victorian shop and residence located in Queenscliff's main commercial street; Hesse Street.
While altered at ground floor level, the building is relatively intact above and makes an important contribution to this part of Hesse Street. It is of interest for the detail of its decoration which is relatively elaborate. The building is of local significance for its association with local butcher, mayor and councillor, Thomas Arkins.
