The Breakwater Baptist manse was erected of regular coursed squared basalt in c 1869 as an outstation for the Aberdeen Street Baptist Church in Geelong and at the same time as the adjacent Sabbath School and Church was constructed. This rectangular plan simple Italianate style structure, virtually unadorned, with a hipped roof symmetrical plan and 6 pane Georgian fenestration, was built at a time when the Breakwater area was being rapidly developed as the fellmongery centre in Western Victoria and the hub of Geelong's riverside industries.
