As a reasonably intact example of a Victorian house that is one of a small number of surviving dwellings within the Brunswick Estate that demonstrate the execution of the Victorian government's Closer Settlement Scheme, designed as a response to the devastating 1890s depression conditions in Victoria, in the early years of the twentieth century.
