It is of historical significance as an example of an evolved nineteenth century guesthouse, a building type that proliferated during the twentieth century, and while uncommon in Point Lonsdale, was not so in Queenscliff. Point Lonsdale Guest House is architecturally significant as a prominent, imposing and long-standing two-storey weatherboard building in Point Lonsdale. While it demonstrates an evolved form, and is not necessarily distinguished architecturally, it still provides evidence of the guest house typology including the generous first floor verandah, from which views are available. It is also one of several hotels/guest houses in the municipality which received new verandah envelopes after World War I, in a 'modern' style, reflecting a desire on the part of the owners to update and refresh the building to support its commercial accommodation use. |
