Joseph Lowe Shaw, an eminent ecclesiastical architect in the Geelong Region, designed this Early English gothic style Parish Church which is constructed of stucco rendered masonry with freestone dressings - St. John's was extensively damaged by a freak tornado in 1926 and the Church was restored and a spire constructed soon afterwards. The parish Church of St. John is an interesting work of J.L. Shaw and of local importance in the rapidly developing Highton Region.
