STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
St. John's Church of England at Highton was erected in 1866 for the local Episcopalian congregation. Joseph Lowe Shaw, an eminent ecclesiastical architect in the Geelong Region, designed this Early English gothic style Parish Church which is constructed of stucco rendered masonry with freestone dressings - St. John's was extensively damaged by a freak tornado in 1926 and the Church was restored and a spire constructed soon afterwards. The parish Church of St. John is an interesting work of J.L. Shaw and of local importance in the rapidly developing Highton Region.
