This shop and residence probably shares a similar date of construction to 358-6 High Street (qv) and, similarly, represents the early commercial development of the High Street which was overwhelmed during later periods of development in the 1880s and 1900-20. Hence it is of high local importance. Unlike 358-6 High Street, this shop is at the first commercial centre which was situated around Bastings' store and post office and the hotel opposite. However, also unlike 358-6 High Street, this shop has been altered. |
