Why is it significant? The cool store is historically and technically significant because it was 'man-made' and illustrates the ingenuity of the farmers/orchardists in the area who used it to preserve their produce (Criteria A & F). The cool store is unique in the former Shire of Eltham and serves as a reminder of the important role that agriculture played in the economic development of the area (Criteria A & B). BICK STUDY, 1992 Constructed to provide cool storage for farm produce, this cave is apparently unique in the Shire and illustrates the ingenuity and do-it-yourself nature of the farmers/orchardists then.
