Extensive timber additions were built after 1878 for W. H. Mortimer. This weatherboard house, with distinctive bay windows and fretwork gable bargeboards, reflects the picturesque traditions in nineteenth century architecture and may include an original prefabricated section, as many timber houses imported from Europe were erected in Newtown between 1853 and 1856. the house has been occupied by several notable Geelong figures. References Sanders Trotman, a Newtown Councillor and early settler in Geelong and Newtown named Bayswater Road after his homeplace in Bayswater, London.
