HIstorically, this house on its large allotment is significant as an early building surviving in a highly urbanised area, reputedly once used as a stopping place for coaches travelling along the Gippsland Road and later, the home of the widow of Victorian Premier McLean. (AHC criteria A4, D2 & H1) Aesthetically, the house is significant as a representative example of a simple Victorian cottage, a type that is rare in the Doveton/Eumemmering area.
