Koraweari has been called the first boarding house in Point Lonsdale(4) but, in 1884-5, the light keeper John Hanby had erected a house near the site of the Terminus, and, whilst he lived in the keeper's cottage near the light, his daughter ran a boarding house called Point Lonsdale House.(5) Another Coffee Palace was opened at Point Lonsdale in 1980, after attempts to establish one as early as 1888. The Sentinel disapproved of its failure to blend with the 'picturesque surroundings'.(6) Koraweari however, remains the earliest still standing. |
