The house at 17 Stawell Street, Cranbourne is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey. Why is it significant? Historically, it is significant as one of a small number of surviving late ninteenth century houses that demonstrate the development of Cranbourne after the opening of the Railway in 1888. It also has associations with the locally known Cockerill family. (AHC criteria A4, D2 & H1) Aesthetically, it is significant as a representative example of a simple Victorian weatherboard cottage, which has a relatively high degree of external integrity.
