Why is it Significant?
Historically, it is significant as the house of customs coxswain for its association with the development of Williamstown during nineteenth century when it was the main port of Melbourne. It is one of a small number of surviving pre-1870 houses in the Private Survey precinct. (AHC criteria A4, B2 and D2).
Aesthetically, it is an intact example of an early Victorian cottage constructed of an uncommon material, which retains original detailing. (AHC criteria B2, E1 and F1) |
