Built in the c.1930s-1940s, the use of half round log cladding and pebble clad chimneys give the building a rustic log cabin character. The house appears to be in fair condition when viewed from the street. 'Wharrie', 40 Darlington Road is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in Stawell in the early 20th century. It also demonstrates original design qualities of an unusual interwar Bungalow style. These qualities include the hipped roof form, together with the minor gable and hip roofs that projects towards the side and street frontages. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the asymmetrical composition, single storey height, horizontal half log wall cladding, corrugated profile sheet metal roof cladding, pebble clad chimneys, wide eaves and timber framed double hung windows. The house is also associated with the Warry family which operated the Trio Doll factory in Stawell. Overall, 'Wharrie', 40 Darlington Road is of LOCAL significance. |
