The Motor Club Hotel, constructed c.1926, at 38-56 High Street, Cranbourne.
How is it significant?
The Motor Club Hotel is of local historic, social and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.
Why is it significant?
Historically and socially, it is significant as one of the long-term and still active hotels in the area which served as gathering places for a number of generations in the Cranbourne district. The hotel, with some of the early very altered shops to the south, are the only remaining early twentieth century buildings in Cranbourne and represents the old commercial core of the town. It also has associations with the locally important Kelly family. (AHC criteria A4, D2 G1 and H1)
Aesthetically, although it has been altered at ground level, the upper external facade of the hotel is relatively intact and a good example of this era in the City, exhibiting the stylistic trends of the time. Situated on a corner site, it is a prominent local landmark. (AHC criterion E1)
