The house at 34 Skene Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century and it demonstrates some remnant and appropriate design qualities of a Late Victorian/Edwardian style. These qualities include the asymmetrical composition, single storey height, recessed hipped roof form together with the hipped roof and hipped convex verandah that projects towards the street frontage, painted brick chimneys with corbelled tops, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, and the narrow eaves with timber brackets, panelling and paterae. |
