Duncraig, with its distinctive Freestyle parapets, British colonial timber detailing, "open-plan" internal circulation plus internal finishes and detailing, was the prototype for later Butler designs, one of the most successful being Thanes, in Kooyong. The house is the focus of a vista down Avalon Road, a residential subdivision aparently created by Butler during his occupation. Traces are sitll visible of the building occupied by The Rutter Long family for forty years. These add a further historical perspective to the house, given the prominence held by Long in the pharmacy profession, both in Victoria and in Great Britian.
