The house at 22 Skene Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century and it demonstrates some important design qualities of a Late Victorian style. These qualities include the double gabled roof form that traverses the site, together with the gable that projects towards the street frontage; galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, timber framed double hung windows, four panelled timber entrance door, narrow eaves, decorative gable infill (pressed metal panelling and timber battening), asymmetrical composition and the single storey height. The timber picket fence (approximately 1000 mm high) also contributes to the significance of the place. |
