| B Listed - Regional Significance Bellarine Heritage Study Record Sheet STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: The Drysdale Cemetery, which is situated north east of the township, is set out in designated denominational areas with the graves of many pioneer families. It contains some large ornate memorials and headstones dating from the 1850s and large old trees. The Crimean War monument is associated with the purpose built veterans home in Crimea Street Drysdale which was based on London Institutions. The Drysdale Cemetery has aesthetic, historic and social value to the Drysdale region. The Drysdale Cemetery headstones are a source of genealogical information. Many of the monuments are representative of monumental masonry craftsmanship. The Crimean section, the size and decoration of the memorials indicating the status of the individual or the family and the location and layout of the Cemetery make this an important cultural place. The cemetery contains the graves of many Bellarine Peninsula families. The cemetery is unusual for its section devoted entirely to veterans of the Crime an Wa r which is dominated by the Criean memorial It is of REGIONAL cultural significance.
