How is it Significant? The Steel Company of Australia Ltd complex (former) is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland. Why is it Significant? Of historic significance as a representative and perhaps the most intact example of Brunswick's once prolific steel foundry industry that became a characteristic form of manufacture in the suburb during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. (AHC Criterion B.2) Of aesthetic significance as a good example of twentieth century industrial architecture, which is of note for its use of coloured brick and curved curved forms on a corner site in the Streamlined Moderne style.
