C LISTED - LOCAL SIGNIFICANCE
The house at 13 Thomas Street is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of the interwar Californian Bungalow style. These qualities include the lapped, galvanised corrugated iron gable roof forms. Other intact qualities include the weatherboard wall cladding, wide eaves and exposed rafters, timber framed windows arranged in horizontal banks having central fixed lights with double hung windows at the sides, window hood and the decorative gable infill (panelling and battening). The flat timber picket fence and gate contribute to the significance of the place.
The house at 13 Thomas Street is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with T.M. Burke's subdivision of the 1920s. It is also significant at as a house constructed by the War Service Homes Commission, a Commonwealth Government scheme of the 1920s to assist low income earners.
Overall, the house at 13 Thomas Street is of LOCAL significance.
